ESX is just one of several products that fall into the larger Virtual Infrastructure 3 (VI3) product suite.
Given the huge adoption of virtualization technologies, I'm surprised you're not getting beat up over this receiving more requests.
Please reference http://www.vmware.com/products/vi/
In addition to just ESX, it would important to offer support for the other components, like HA, DRS, Vmotion, Update Manager (i can't believe someone hasn't asked for update manager logs yet, it's like WSUS for all things VMWare), Virtual SMP, etc.
I will submit an offical request for VI3 support. The purpose of this post was to put out a feeler with the crowd to see who else might need/wan't it.
... and after one year ... https://knowledge.rsasecurity.com/docs/rsa_env/device_config/VMware_Collector_Service_Installation_and_Configuration_Guide.pdf
Is this a normal ETA to support new devices?
Regards,
Fernando Allendes.
No, I don't think this is a 'normal' ETA. After all, RSA indicated in a 2008 product roadmap that they had nearly doubled their staff levels dedicated to cranking out new event source support, and promised not only an increase in quantity but also frequency of releases. Since then, we've seen the monthly ESUs come out regularly, so that's definitely increasing their frequency of releases, and I'm still optimistic that they're going to live up to that quantity goal, though the jury is still out on that one.
The release of this VMware Collector Service is a big step for the enVision team. Kudo's to them!

Yes we are running ESX and certainly would be interested in bringing this support into our reporting and alerting processes. The trend is going to VM environments.

Hi,
When adding a new event source we like to have the raw logs from the server so the content team can verify that everything parses proper. That said, the end user is also able to create their own parser using the ESI tool " Event Source Integrator" . I would open an RSA Case to get the process rolling to make sure that the technical support engineer creates a proper request for enhancement for you.
Thank you
David
Unless we hear more requests, VMWare VI3 is not a likely future ES.
We are exploring ESX as a target ES. ETA likely Q1CY09 assuming we find support for this.
